Week 5

Here are some highlights from Technology this week:
Week 5 (September 18 – Sept 22, 2017)

Starbucks card giveaway!  Thank you to everyone on my Technology Team who filled out my online survey.  Great feedback.  Google has a tool that will pick random numbers for you.  I plugged my data in and got two numbers: 9 and 16.  I found those on my spreadsheet.  Our winners are…..Carrie Washburn and Julie Rapier.  Congratulations!!  Originally, I said only one winner.  But, I like Starbucks and had to spread the joy!

Digital Citizenship. I started a few digital citizenship lessons this week.  We talked about proper use of usernames and passwords.  We looked at what to do when someone is unkind to us on the internet.  We entered Kahoot! for the very first time.  We will return there next week and actually take our first quiz.  This is a great quiz tool.

Kahoot!  THIS LINK will take you to a quick tutorial on how to use this online quiz tool.  The downloadable student responses page (My Results) provides helpful instructional feedback.  Small group?  Differentiated instruction?  Re-teaching?  Who?  When?  How much?  Answer these questions using the spreadsheet that is available to you after each quiz session.

Digital Citizenship.  Are you looking for Digital Citizenship resources for your classroom?  Would you like teach your students how to be safe on the internet?  What are safe technology practices?  What types of information can harm you?  How should children behave on the internet/cell phone?  How should children respond to online bullying?  Do your students know what to do?  Here are a few links that can get you started:

ELA.  A few classes explored the annotation space.  They were able to take notes for the first time.  One teacher took the lesson I gave and made it homework.  She said, “Students, it is now your job to teach your parents how to use these tools that Mrs. Culver showed us how to use.”  This was a great way to reinforce the ideas we learned in Technology Lab.  My PowerPoint presentation can be downloaded HERE.

Math.  A few classes are still exploring the online tools in the Math book.  Parents are excited about using this tool at home.  Games.  Manipulatives.  Printables.  Access to the entire book.  Teachers, thank you for the positive parent feedback you are giving me.  I love hearing that the learning extends beyond the tech session and your students are using these tools.  Access the ONLINE TEACHER MATH TEXT HERE.

Google Classroom.  Two classes made it to Google Classroom this week.  These classes are ready to use this space!

Student Connect.  I took a few classes through the process of resetting Student Connect passwords.  New passwords cannot be longer than 10 characters in length.  Students can monitor their own academic progress using this tool.  See PowerPoint slideshow here.  If your students cannot get into Student Connect via Clever, use the Student Connect link on the CUSD website.  Your attendance secretary will have those passwords for you.  Username is the child’s CUSD student ID number (recommended for grades 4 and up).

Bud Rank wireless projection.  Bud Rank, you had some site upgrades over the summer.  If you don’t know how to get your laptop to work with your wireless projector, please let me know.  I can forward that document to you.  Cool stuff!

Feedback.  Thank you for the kind feedback you are giving me.  Your parents like the Parent Communication document I drafted.  Your children are doing what I teach in Technology at home for homework.  And you are visiting my website.  One teacher watched my website teaching video and designed her own website in less than on hour!  Wahoooo!!  Thank you for reading, watching, doing, and sharing.  Your feedback is kind and warmly received.

Kindly,
