Week 6

Here are some highlights from Technology this week:
Week 6 (September 25 – Sept 29, 2017)

PTCFast. Try this website to set up your Parent Teacher Conferences.  Send out a link to all of your parents.  Have your parents sign up online.  The system will email parents a reminder.  All online.  And, totally free!  Here is a VIDEO TUTORIAL that will answer any of your questions.

Digital Citizenship
.  My classes are maneuvering through digital citizenship lessons like champs.  We are talking about internet safety using a variety of different tools.  Should you ever agree to meet a stranger you meet online?  Should you keep it a secret when someone bullies you online?  Should you ever use your phone number as a username?  These questions and more are being explored in our tech sessions.  The children are demonstrating core understanding through Kahoot!

Student laptops
.  If you see a red screen on a student laptop, that means that some of the software is out-of-date.  Please remember to put the laptops in sleep mode each night.  Do not turn them off; the updates happen at night.

Clever Homepage.  As a site, if you wish for your student laptops to have a Clever homepage for IE and Chrome, your principal can create an eTicket for your site and IT will adjust all those computers for you.  The need to say, “Please type clever.cusd.com,” will be a thing of the past.  You can add a second tab as well; your school website could be tab #2.  You have options.

Benchmark. Some teachers have asked how to get to the student text using the online Teacher’s Edition.  Here is your answer.  When you are in the Benchmark Advance tab, scroll down.

Scroll way down.  Then you will find this area: Whole Group Texts and Resources (image below).  You will be able to access the text just like the kids do.

McGraw Hill (Math Book).  I am closing out the Digital Math Book lessons with my classes.  If you would like to use the PowerPoint I designed to do this lesson in your class, see the LINK HERE.  There are also slides at the end that show you how to use the tools in your digital TE.  I got a lot of kind feedback from my classes.  They found these tools to be very helpful.

Student Math Book online.  If you have a student who cannot log into the Math book successfully through Clever, here is an easy workaround.  Have the child use the McGraw Hill link from the CUSD webpage (Students tab).  Or, use this link: tinyurl.com/cusdconnected.

PhotoMath.  This is a great parent app.  Parents don’t always want to solve every question of the math homework to see if each answer their child has done is correct.  Have your parents use this app to check homework easily and quickly.  The camera from your phone evaluates the question and instantly gives you an answer.  It will also give you step-by-step instructions on how to solve that question.

Thank you.  Thank you for helping me feel like I belong to each of your campuses.  Thank you for welcoming me in to what you are doing.  Thank you for reaching out.  I truly enjoy helping you.  I’m only an email away.  Please let me know how I can serve you.

Kindly,
